This summer we turned our hand to a slightly different type of tank - rain water tanks - all in the name of charity. The cement water tanks provided through the charity Go Make a Difference, are helping to provide a clean water source for community groups in Tanzania.
I was approached by Stephen Lowe on behalf of the charity. When Stephen discussed the project with me it really opened my eyes to how fortunate we are and that no matter how bad our day is going we can still get a drink of water out of our tap without fear of disease.
The simple and effective tank design takes 12 days to build using local tradesmen and local suppliers for the building materials. Sponsorship gives employment for local people. It also provides business for local suppliers of the building materials. This in itself has made a big difference to the local economy. In order to be eligible for a water tank, the beneficiary must volunteer twice on other local community projects.
Suretank has proudly sponsored the build and installation of one of these ingenious designs for George Magesa, wife Amina and children Charles and Kunju which will ensure that the family has clean water the whole year round. I am proud that we as a company have taken this issue away from one family. We have supplied a solution in a different way to the usual solutions we solve. Although a simple design these tanks are synonymous with quality and safety, the two most important factors in the build of our own offshore tanks.
We were delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause which is changing and improving the lives of many people in Tanzania. Coming from a privileged society where so much is taken for granted, including access to fresh water, it's great to be able to give something back and make a difference.
